Cameron Trading Post was established by two brothers, Hubert and C.D. Richardson, in 1916 at the edge of the Little Colorado River Gorge. The unique suspension bridge spanning the river gorge was a perfect place to build a post to trade mercantile and dry goods for livestock, wool, and craft items from the local Native American population. Early traders like Hubert and C.D. acted as liaisons for the Native Americans.
